Welcome to John Aves Education Project (JAEP) Charity Number 1170414

The scholarship call for September 2025 was released on 10 April with a closing date of 25 June.

JAEP received a record number of applications (25) from young people living in Dheisheh Refugee Camp in Bethlehem studying at either Al Quds University or Bethlehem University. !5 applicants were shortlisted and interviewed via zoom on 3 July. JAEP will notify our partners at the two universities of the successful applicants by 31 July.

Scolarships awarded up to 2024.

To date JAEP has given scholarships to 87 young adults (68 girls and 19 boys) from Dheisheh. The need has become even more acute since 07/10/23. Learning for students at both universities returned to the campus for the academic year that has just ended.

Nibal Software Engineering graduate from Al Quds University, now working as a Senior Software Engineer for a Global Networking Company. Picture May 2023 in Nibal’s workplace

NIbal was one of the very first JAEP graduates, graduating in 2014. During early monitoring visits, the JAEP team joined Nibal for a class, was invited to her home to share a meal and to meet Nibal’s siblings and parents.

After graduating in 2014, Nibal ‘s first job was as a games programming in Bethlehem. Followed by working for various start up software companies in Bethlehem and Ramallah. In February 2020 she was appointed as a software engineer for a Global Networking company. Nibal is now a Senior Software Engineer and works in Caesarea in Israel. The only Palestinian on the payroll. Nibal said to us.

“Thank you JAEP without your support I would not have a degree. Working in Israel means my salary is higher. Family and friends ask for financial help to fund their studies. When they bring money to pay back the debt, I always says no, but ask the person to give the money to someone else who needs help, I call this a chain reaction.”

“JAEP gave me the opportunity to pursue with my goals, and today I am celebrating my success and remembering their support at each step, which inspired me to do the same for other dreamers.”
